To keep the other topic cleaner, I have created this one to talk about all things Space Infantry; Vassal Module or Commercial release.

If you would like to check out the free Vassal module, please find the set-up instructions in the Board and Table Top Games topic.

SI is published by Lock and Load Publishing. The game costs $55 from them though.  You can find it cheaper from other places, like here. Of course, you can always play the basic game using the Vassal Module to try it out for free, and the procedure for doing that is in the Board and Table Top Games topic.

Also, this is the designer's website; http://zak965.it/spaceinfantry/index.html.

There you'll find other goodies like a new enemy card, a random new character generator and announcements about what's coming up!

Ok, let me introduce you to Marco. :)

He's my favorite game reviewer on youtube.  Personable, funny, and seems to have the same tastes as I do.  He mostly reviews wargames but does stray in to fantasy and sci-fi stuff as well.

Good review of Space Infantry (the commercial version).

In my opinion, the apparent simplicity of the SI system belies the fact that there really are some tactics and strategies to the game.  Trust me, I got my ass whipped good sometimes in my first few games, particularly against the Dark Gods.  I hate those guys. :)

Anyway, someone asked about strategies on BGG last night so I thought that might be a good starting point for discussion of such matters here.

Makes me feel better, just starting out & all. .

I'm appreciative for the extra bit of strategy.  The way it worked best for me, after losing the first couple of missions, was to start off with the same cards & loadout as the "example of play," and go on from there until I got comfortable with that -- then experimenting with a change or two from that basic start as I got the hang of it.

Yep, that's the way to do it.

Also, if you use campaign options, you can make some relevant choices during set up.  Don't forget that you have multiple leaders with varying capabilities too.  One of them has a 5 command rating which sucks, but also allows a free specialist... like a medic (who gets you an extra med kit as well as heal attempts during the same phase that you resolve nodes).  You could also level that leader after only one mission both in the boxed game and my Vassal version.

But you also have a leader with a CL of 3.  Imagine that guy leveled with a few Intel chits for ambush.

I am also working on a story campaign that will feature enemies in an ascending order of difficulty along with some flavor text. I would rate the enemies in this order of difficulty (so far anyway);

Mission 1 - Mercs
Mission 2 - Cybers
Mission 3 - Mutants
Mission 4 - Leviathan (no choice)
Mission 5 - Flesh Eaters
Mission 6 - Dark Roots
Mission 7 - Dark Gods
Mission 8 - Default enemies (no choice)

This ascending level of difficulty will allow you to level your troops before you face the tougher ones. And the story will hopefully begin the outlines of my version of this universe's lore. :)
