Do we have to install the netmarble game launcher to play the game?

Also, I am curious...those that tried POTBS and did not like it, what didn't you like?

Yes, the netmarble launcher automatically gets installed when you install the game. When you go to play it, you log into the netmarble first and then into the game from there. I'm not a huge fan of that kind of thing, but it at least appears to be less intrusive than some others that do similar.

As for POTBS, I didn't like the lack of any sort of real economy, and the combat itself I found to be no fun whatsoever. Not to mention from what I could tell they were forcing people into PvP situations with the way the ports and other game mechanics were controlled, and the way quests were handled made me feel like I was locked into something I had no control over (you know I'm a sandbox over themepark person). Having nations was fine, but essentially the pirates being a nation unto themselves I didn't care for, either. Some of these things may have been fixed to a degree, but overall from playing in the beta what I got was it would take them completely scrapping the game and starting fresh with new systems in order for it to really have a chance of succeeding. Every person I knew who tried it said the same thing, and the unanimous consensus was that the game was bound for failure. There might be some old posts of mine around here of my opinion on it after I tried it, which would be absent of my not remembering every detail in trying to erase that game from my memory.

UWO is much, much closer to what I look for in a game like this. An open world where you can do what you want. An economic system where not only can you craft and buy and sell, but also where you really do have an effect on the world economy. There are many quests available, but they are optional and other than specific story/questlines, you can do things in the order you want to. While you choose a nation to "belong" to, you can feel like a real pirate in this game if you want to. Be it a brotherhood, or a rogue individual.
