Thanks, I've downloaded most of the mods but I haven't installed them yet; Hosehead's site is nice too! You're great, mateys who developed them, it's a huge contribution and gift to all who admire SeaDogs and pirate games!

Welcome to you, Captain Blood & Razor!  It's usual custom for the newcomers to buy the first round of rum.  I'll buy the first round this time, since I'm late.

Razor, it must be hard to play the game when English is your second language.  It looks like you've learned a lot in the last seven years, because your post is very clear.

It's been a long time since we've dusted off our SeaDogs information for new vistors.  It's nice to get to do so again.

The Mercantile Site has become the final resting place for SeaDogs information and mods.

For information on SeaDogs and strategy for playing the game, there is an Online SeaDogs Guide on the site:  Sea Dogs Online Guide

You shouldn't wait to install the SeaDogs mods!  Other game mods are designed to be installed after the original game has been played first.  The SeaDogs mods are different.  They don't change the main game missions.  But there are a LOT of mods for new players: new officers, new ships, new missions.  Most games start out easy and get harder as you play, but SeaDogs starts out difficult and gets easier as you play.  The mods help make the game easier to learn and more fun to play.

Also, I know I don't like game mods much because they are difficult to install.  The SeaDogs mods come with their own installer program that lets you review the mods and only install the ones you want.

The only drawback to the mods is that you have to start a new game for them to take effect.

The last two versions of the mods are on my site:

Version 1.11 has had over 10,000 downloads and is very stable.

Version 1.12 has a bug where if you install too many mods, the game will overload after about 20 hours of play.  However, the major modding tools are included in this version, and some of the old information on how to use them.  So if you are interested in modding the game, you can get all the tools in one file.  It also automatically patches your game with the last "official" patch -- Akella's Ver 1.06 patch.  You need to be running the patched game, or it it is virtually unplayable.

If you're not sure whether you want to install mods, at least download and run the program to see what mods are available.  It does not copy anything into your game until you decide which mods you want, so you can get a preview of some of the mods.

Here's the download links:

Version 1.11 <50MB>

Version 1.12 <100MB>

Thanks for the rum, drinking to your health! :) I downloaded version 1.11 from this link and installed some of the mods(the lighest ones initially, then the larger), they're working perfectly! The installation program is also very convenient, just a dream :D I still haven't started playing the campaigns, but I have some more work recently(it'd be so nice to have a lot of free time like in summer...) Thanks again to Sir Hosehead, Wanderer and all add-on developers....

Meanwhile I had started making some small quests for SD, it's really a difficult but fascinating and very interesting work...

Hi Razor,

Some modding suggestions for Sea Dogs that might, or might not give you some ideas.

I had done some of this but had a computer literally catch on fire and lost my mod. (When I say I had done in one case I paid my friends son.)

Hosehead saw part of it and may even still have it. I had re-grouped the ships into historical "ratings" by nation and realigned the shipyards. I'd also added trade items.

You will run into hard coded limits pretty fast in the engine that the mod team here was never able to overcome such as a hard limit on the number of ships

I have wondered if it might not be possible to take an Engine from another sea faring game along with borrowed graphics and recreate Sea Dogs in better Graphics.
